As
the name suggests, this private and rustic cottage, in Bonnievale,
lies in the shade of an old blue gum tree, a few steps from the
Breede River. With two bedrooms and extra space in the living room,
Blue Gum can sleep a maximum five. What’s more, there’s
further space for a tent outside – equipped with a power-point
and its own bathroom!
The liberal use of raw timber, reed and river pebbles results in
a casual, simple and cool interior. Blue Gum has recently been joined
by a younger sibling, called Die Stal. Like its brother, all that
separates it from the river is a patch of green grass. It is light
and airy and perhaps a tad or two smarter that Blue Gum, with French
doors leading onto a timber deck, uncluttered Cape furniture, wrought
iron-and-brass beds draped with mosquito nets, a nice braai area,
etc. It sleeps a total of four guests.
Like many other getaways along the Breede, your stay will be filled
with bird watching, canoeing (boat provided), fishing, swimming,
strolling the farm’s walking trail and braaing to the tune
of local birdlife and fiery sunsets. In other words, you will be
as happy as a pig in mud.
